Episode 7 Reflection

This Episode of Downton is definitely in my top 3 ever!

Every character is involved in one way or another and things are seemingly tying together perfectly. The biggest thing in this episode for me was Cora’s miscarriage. The first time I ever watched the episode I could see it coming, but once it actually happens it is as though you never braced yourself at all. Every time I see this scene it breaks my heart all over again. O’Brien got a lot of hate from the Downton fans for doing this to Cora but for me it only made me love and want to help her more. O’Brien is a good person who acts on bad choices. The look on her face after the incident when she is speaking to the Dowager Countess and she finds out the ads weren’t to replace her was enough to make me tear up. She felt so bad! She knew it was wrong the second she walked out of the room, but it was too late. Poor O’Brien.

And Cora!!! OH MY GOD! My poor darling Cora! LET ME HUG YOU! I can’t even imagine enduring the emotional and physical pain Cora has to go through. Yet somehow she remains so sweet. I hope O’Brien will cater to her every need now and forever!

Hmmmmm…something good that happened…oh. When Anna went to London and found out the real truth about Mr.Bates. This made me really happy and renewed my faith in humanity. It is so wonderful that after all the trouble involving Bates, Anna still stands by him and won’t let anyone else’s words alter her opinion on him. Martyr.

+ I’m so glad Mrs.Patmore is all healed up! I certainly was not prepared to see her leave Downton, it would be far to difficult cooking meals and not being able to see what you are doing. Honestly, going blind today could probably be cured with a flick of a switch, but in 1914, I don’t even want to know what procedure Mrs.Patmore would have had to go through. Probably along the lines of putting a pillow over your mouth to muffle the screams. Also Mrs.Patmore gets a sick pair of shades to wear for a while.

Jealous of Mrs. P’s awesomeness.

The biggest pro/con for me this episode is Gwen getting the secretary job. Firstly, let me say..”I’M SO PROUD OF YOU GWENY!!!!!” I’m so happy for you! I knew you could do it!But alas, all good things must come to an end. This is the last episode that we see Gwen!Yea, Gwen is no longer in Downton Abbey! GWEN!!!!!! I MISS YOU!!! Kudos for following your dreams, especially for a farm girl/maid in 1914. I’m impressed.

Brace yourselves everybody, no more pettiness in Downton anymore. Series 2 is on the way and its wartime.

Dowager Countess Quote:

Dowager Countess: First electricity, now telephones. Sometimes I feel as if I were living in an H.G. Wells novel. But the young are all so calm about change, aren’t they? Look at Matthew. I do admire him.

Isobel Crawley: Do you?

Dowager Countess : What have I done wrong now?

Isobel Crawley: Oh. please. Don’t pretend Mary’s sudden reluctance can’t be traced back to you.

Dowager Countess: Well, I shall pretend it. I told her to take him. Your quarrel is with my daughter Rosamund, not me. So, put that in your pipe and smoke it.
